From projector to LED – Clearer Communication at Matamata Primary School
Matamata Primary School was looking to improve how content was presented in their school hall — particularly during assemblies, events, and student presentations.
This project shows how upgrading from a projector to an LED display improves visibility, engagement, and presentation quality in large spaces.
The Challenge
The school was relying on an older projector and screen setup, which was no longer delivering the clarity they needed.
Common issues included:
Faded, hard-to-see images
Poor visibility from the back of the hall
Parents struggling to clearly see student work
Curtains needing to be closed to improve visibility
For a school that places real value on student presentations and community engagement, this wasn’t ideal.
As Principal Glen McPherson explained, a lot of effort goes into preparing content — and it deserved to be seen properly.
The Solution
Sitech installed a large-format LED display (5m x 3m) in the school hall — designed to deliver bright, clear visuals in any lighting conditions.
Key features included:
High brightness and vibrant colour — even in daylight
No need for additional lighting control or blackout curtains
Clear visibility from anywhere in the hall
Durable surface designed to withstand accidental impact (e.g. balls)
Long lifespan of up to 100,000 hours
The LED screen also acts as a digital backdrop, making it ideal for assemblies, performances, and events.
The Approach
The focus was on delivering a solution that:
Improved visibility for all audiences
Was easy for staff to use
Would stand up to the realities of a busy school environment
The installation process was seamless, allowing the school to start using the system almost immediately.
The Outcome
The difference was noticeable straight away.
✔ Clear, bright images — no matter where you sit
✔ Improved experience for students, staff, and parents
✔ Student work presented with the quality it deserves
✔ Increased engagement during assemblies and events
As Glen noted, once it was up and running:
“We had the clarity straight away. Staff and kids poured in — they were into it.”
Even early use showed the impact — with assemblies displaying student achievements and visuals clearly across the entire space.
Why It Matters
For Matamata Primary, this wasn’t just a technology upgrade — it was about:
Respecting the effort students put into their work
Creating a better experience for the community
Making communication clearer and more engaging
